Gina Selig
Gina is a Science Assistant at the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Geosciences Front Office, where she supports the coordination and implementation of geoscience research programs. She previously served as a 2023 Knauss Marine Policy Fellow at the NSF Office of Polar Programs, where she fostered partnerships within the polar research community and applied her scientific expertise to the preservation of Antarctic wildlife and ecosystems.
Gina holds a BS in Marine Science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo (2020) and an MS in Biological Oceanography from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (2023). Her thesis, which focused on the distribution and community structure of deep-sea demersal fishes across the central Pacific archipelagos, was supported by the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Throughout her career, she has participated in multiple expeditions in the Pacific Ocean, contributing to deep-sea exploration, research, and hydrographic surveying in remote regions of Southwest Alaska as a NOAA EPP/MSI Undergraduate Scholar.
Passionate about outreach and education, Gina has worked with educators at The Marine Mammal Center: Ke Kai Ola and participated in live ship-to-shore connections with classrooms as an Ocean Science Intern aboard the E/V Nautilus. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, writing music, and spending time with her two cats, Juniper and Juliet.
